HERE’S A REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE

Ljiljana's Experience

Ljiljana’s experience with a cancer diagnosis was similar to that of most patients in our country. On a chest X-ray, a specialist doctor noticed a spot. After the CT scan and pathology report confirmed the presence of a tumor, the radiologist recommended a PET-CT scan as the most precise diagnostic method in oncology.

He explained that a PET-CT scan shows not only whether there are abnormal cells, but also whether they are active, what they look like, and whether the tumor has spread. However, he emphasized that in Serbia, waiting lists can be as long as six months.

Through personal contacts, she also found out that oncology medications which have been available in the rest of Europe for 5 to 6 years are still not registered in Serbia, and that we are behind in terms of techniques and medical equipment. Thousands of people face the same problem every day.

HOW WE HELPED

Starting treatment in Austria and putting the disease into remission

Tamara, Ljiljana’s daughter, contacted us seeking a better solution for her mother. After a detailed conversation and review of the documentation by our expert team, we explained to Tamara that:

  • Our team has 9 years of experience in organizing treatments and has helped hundreds of patients obtain accurate diagnoses and innovative therapies that were unavailable to them in Serbia.
  • We can schedule a PET scan within 14 days.
  • Ljiljana’s pathology sample will be analyzed using all available panels in medicine, and based on that, she will receive a personalized combination of medications tailored specifically to her type of tumor.
  • We will connect them with a surgeon who will use the latest available techniques to solve the problem precisely and simultaneously -minimally invasively.
  • We collaborate with private and public clinics that offer the highest standards of care for their patients.
  • We entrust all our clients to teams of medical professionals who we, ourselves, would put our trust in and whose expertise we have verified through collaboration on more than a hundred oncology cases.

Ljiljana soon began her treatment in Austria, and today her disease is in remission.

ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

Edit Content

No, we are not a healthcare institution. We are an agency that organizes treatments in Austria and consultations with healthcare professionals from Austria and the USA.

Our office is located in Subotica; however, you typically won’t need to visit us in person. Schedule a free phone call now, and we will clearly explain the entire procedure to you.

All types of imaging and other diagnostic procedures are carried out in Austria. We organize PET-CT scans with all available tracers in Vienna, and other diagnostic procedures in Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, and other cities in Austria.

First, you need to schedule a free phone consultation. During the conversation, we will ask for information about the primary tumor, whether you are being referred by a doctor or going for imaging on your request, your medical data, medical history, and the date when you need the imaging. Our team will then look for the earliest available date for the imaging, and once you confirm that the date works for you, we sign a cooperation agreement. You will receive confirmation of your appointment and the address where you need to appear at the scheduled time, as well as information about our team member who will accompany you. We will emphasize that you should bring the TSH and creatinine results that are no older than 3 weeks, and it is important that you have not had surgical interventions at least 6 weeks before the imaging. We provide you with all the instructions (when you can have your last meal, a detailed plan of what will happen, etc.). After the imaging at the institute, you will receive a CD with the completed scans, and the interpreted report will be sent to us via email. We will forward the report to you along with the translated summary (the translation of the entire report incurs an additional charge). Therefore, for the entire procedure, you’ll need to set aside two days: you arrive in Vienna the day before, the next day is the imaging in the morning, and you can return home the same day. More detailed information is described in the brochure which you can download here. The price of PET CT imaging depends on the tracer that you personally need. The total price includes the imaging, organizational service, and working hours of the coordinating team on-site, and the amount starts from €1950 and up, depending on the tracer.

To zavisi od vrste trejsera koji Vam je potreban. Primera radi, ako vam je potreban FDG-18 trejser, snimanje možemo da zakažemo već za 2-3 dana (ako možete brzo da stignete do Beča).

In 90% of cases – yes. There are exceptions for certain diagnoses and situations. For example, if a patient is certain they do not want treatment in Austria, we can organize a Zoom consultation with an oncologist. In that case, a review of the imaging in Austria through teleradiology needs to be done beforehand, and sometimes a review of the histopathology must also be conducted. Additionally, the patient must sign a statement acknowledging that the Austrian oncologist is providing recommendations based on findings from Serbia that have not been verified in Austria. Therefore, neither Medhel nor the oncologist bears responsibility for errors or results arising from the consultation. Because of all this, we always recommend that you go to Austria in person for an examination to get the most reliable opinion and accurate diagnosis.

We do not collaborate with only one clinic but with several private and public institutions in Austria, Germany, and the USA. When you contact us, depending on your needs and clinical picture, we form a medical team, the most qualified for your specific case. One part of the treatment usually takes place in private clinics of the PremiQaMed group, Wiener Privatklinik, while another part takes place in public hospitals, such as AKH. The majority of healthcare services are provided in Vienna, but for certain diagnoses, we also collaborate with establishments throughout Austria, Germany, and the USA.

All the doctors we collaborate with are senior-level professionals – professors, heads of departments, members of various European oncology associations, etc. We select verified experts with many years of experience who are regarded as the most successful doctors in their field, and whom we would also trust with our health.

All healthcare institutions we partner with operate on the principle of preliminary cost estimates, as that estimate is sent before the first in-person contact between the patient and the medical team. Since each patient is unique and the true state of affairs can only be seen on-site, it is impossible to define fixed pricing packages. Therefore, the cost estimate depends on the clinical picture, at what stage of treatment you contact us, what diagnostics you already have available, whether new samples need to be taken, etc. For a personalized offer, schedule a phone consultation here.

No, the cost of medications is charged separately. The process is divided into two phases when it comes to cost. The first phase is diagnostic, and it lasts until you receive recommendations for therapy. The price of the first phase includes only the costs of the diagnostic process. The second phase is the treatment for which the preliminary estimate includes all costs related to medications, medical fees, etc.

Yes, if the recommended therapy is available, i.e., if the medication is registered in Serbia. You will receive a written recommendation for further therapy and all relevant medical documentation in the form of an official document (discharge letter) from the hospital where you were treated. You can continue your treatment in Serbia with the officially certified translation of these findings.

While receiving therapy, you don’t need to stay in Vienna all the time. Depending on the treatment protocol you receive, you may come to Vienna every 2, 3, or 4 weeks and stay there for 2-4 days. After that, you return to Serbia and stay at home while waiting for the next cycle, during which time you are in constant communication with us and your medical team. If you are going for radiation or surgery, you should allocate between 7 (e.g., for surgery) to 25 days (e.g., for radiation) for your stay in Vienna.

A member of our team, either a nurse or a technician, will accompany you throughout your stay. They will translate all communications with medical staff, assist with filling out forms, and be available to address any questions or concerns you may have.

No, a prerequisite for a consultation with a specialist in integrative medicine is that you are already undergoing therapy according to conventional medical protocols.

We can arrange accommodation for you at Pension Baronesse **** and Flarent Vienna apartments. If these options do not suit you, we cannot organize alternative accommodations, but we can provide feedback on the suitability of any accommodations you have found. For instance, we can let you know if they are located close to where you need to have diagnostics, therapy, or other appointments.

No, transportation is your responsibility. If you are arriving in Vienna by plane, train, or bus, we can arrange for a taxi to wait for you at your arrival point, with a driver who speaks Serbian and will take you to the agreed address per our instructions.

Patients can always bring one person for personal assistance; however, that person cannot always be present during examinations, nor can they take on the role of a translator. If the patient is staying in a hospital, the companion can be admitted with the patient to the hospital room after undergoing the appropriate COVID-19 procedures. The companion cannot accompany the patient to diagnostic examinations but can attend discussions with the medical team. If it involves individual diagnostic procedures, such as a PET-CT scan, your companion can travel to Vienna, but they cannot accompany you during the actual PET-CT imaging.

Neither the phone consultation nor the offer is binding for you. Only after we sign a cooperation agreement do your obligations regarding cancellation or rescheduling of the agreed appointment, payment of bills, etc., begin.

For this procedure, you must come to Subotica, submit your samples, and sign the necessary documentation. Samples are sent to Vienna on Tuesdays, so the last time to submit samples each week is noon on Monday, at our office.

It’s not mandatory to come to our office or provide us with the original CD. You can send the images from the CD using the WeTransfer platform.
